Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate in. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We are seeking a suitably experienced Advisor Environment and Tenements to join our Environment & Communities team in the Perth office.  There will be some ad hoc travel to the Karara Mine Site to meet with internal stakeholders and assist as required. 

Reporting to the Principal Advisor Environment, this role is responsible for supporting Environmental and Tenement compliance reporting and approvals for the Greater Karara Project. This includes tasks associated with the maintenance of Karara Mining Limited’s Environmental Management System, and improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities;

  • QA/QC and analyse flora, fauna and rehabilitation monitoring data registers
  • Draft sections for annual compliance reports based on analysis of monitoring data registers
  • Support the development, implementation and maintenance of the Environmental Management System
  • Fulfil Tenement Management functions to maintain compliance with statutory requirements
  • Maintain the integrity of the environmental obligations registers
  • Collate and quality control contractor data for reporting purposes such as NPI, NGERS and Clean Energy Regulator
  • Prepare monthly monitoring data reviews to analyse trends and advise of any potential risks or adverse trends to the business
  • Assist in conducting site inspections/audits
  • Support the delivery of environmental presentations, meetings or workshops, as required
  • Support approvals, mine site sustainability and community initiatives and innovation projects
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Other tasks reasonably assigned by Principal Advisor Environment in line with skill set, training and competency

Essential Qualifications and Experience;

  • Tertiary qualification in Environment, Geological Sciences or similar related to the role
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook and Excel
  • A demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of environmental legislation, regulations and compliances including but not limited to the Mining Act 1978
  • Previous experience in tenement management (desirable)
  • Certification in Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Auditing (desirable)
  • Proven experience in a similar role within the mining or other heavy industry would be advantageous
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, high attention to detail
