Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We are looking for an experienced Preventative Maintenance Technician to join the site maintenance team. Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Engineer, this role is responsible for improved reliability of mechanical equipment, refining maintenance practices and inspections, and document findings. They will also be charged with the development of proposals for process and equipment improvement.

This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off continuous day shift roster.

This is an initial 12 month fixed term contract.

 Key responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate personal safety leadership by meeting all Karara safety policy and procedures
  • Role model safe work practices and actively engage in meetings and planning discussion to improve hazard awareness and safety
  • Assess maintenance equipment to identify defects and execute defect rectification measures to ensure equipment is well conditioned
  • Interpret and understand the Detailed Job Description (DJD) and scope the requirements of the task before carrying out assessments
  • Identify tooling and or equipment required and conduct risk assessments
  • Identify and raise maintenance notifications in SAP system for future corrective/preventative maintenance repairs and tasks
  • Review the Mechanical Fitter regular inspection DJP's to ensure recorded defects have been put into SAP system and check improvements to equipment
  • Utilise specialised measuring and testing tools like micrometres, verniers, laser temp guns, vibration analysis, pressure gauges etc.
  • Work closely and interface with Maintenance Planners/Schedulers to coordinate maintenance and remedial work

Key requirements:

  • Trade qualification within the Maintenance discipline 
  • Cert III in Mechanical Engineering (desirable)
  • WA HR license
  • Current WA drivers license
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience within a fixed plant environment in mining or other heavy industry
  • Demonstrated experience with crushing, conveyors and HPGR (fixed plant) maintenance in mineral processing plant
  • Previous experience in online and offline equipment inspections of processing plant equipment
  • SAP experience
