Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an opportunity for an experienced and qualified Mechanical Engineer to join the Mechanical Maintenance Engineering team based at the Karara Mine Site. This position is responsible for improving plant reliability in processing operations through the effective administration of capital projects encompassing purchase, design, and replacement of existing equipment and revisions to plant layout and operation.

**The successful applicant must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of iron ore mining and mineral processing operations**

This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off roster and is FIFO from Perth of DIDO from Geraldton.

Key responsibilities;

  • Responsible for ensuring quality maintenance systems, best practice reliability engineering service and the provision of quality controlled reliability standards
  • Conduct root cause analysis with maintenance and production personnel
  • Develop and suggest modifications to equipment in line with industry best practice
  • Provide technical advice and support to personnel on repairs and improvements
  • Contribute to investigations and involvement in failure analysis activities of plant and equipment
  • Implementation and improvement of Condition Monitoring Techniques to improve reliability
  • Participate in the identification, development and implementation of relevant improvement projects

Key requirements;

  • Previous in-field exposure to reliability engineering and operational plants
  • Knowledge of pump and pipeline system calculation software packages
  • Experience with ERP systems such SAP
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret Condition Monitoring and Vibration Analysis results
  • Solid mechanical and reliability background
  • Sound knowledge of SolidWorks software including simulation software
  • Understanding of common predictive technologies: vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, motor analysis, ultrasonic, machinery analysis, alignment and balancing procedures, and fixed equipment diagnostic technologies
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • Solid communication and relationship building skills
  • Committed team player and effective leadership skills

Key qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)
  • Demonstrated experience in similar Mechanical/Reliability Engineering role within the mining industry
  • Strong experience in root cause analysis process, methods and tools
  • Solid understanding of common predictive technologies, vibration analysis, lubrication, motor analysis, machinery analysis etc
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with mineral processing plant principals
