Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an opportunity for an experienced and qualified Production Superintendent to join the Processing Department based at the Karara Mine Site. 

The Superintendent Production is responsible for the effective operation of the plant, ensuring appropriate operator staffing levels and skill sets are maintained, implementation of systems and processes to retain compliance, and communicate with key stakeholders and departments regarding plant operations.

This role is a permanent position, based on an 8 days on 6 days off FIFO rotation.

 

Key responsibilities;

  • Manage the operation of the plant, with a focus on medium to long term operational planning.
  • Ensure all operating teams are sufficiently staffed and conduct regular housekeeping activities.
  • Manage operator training and compliance to maintain a high standard of plant operation.
  • Develop training matrix’s, training manuals and other systems to effectively manage operator training requirements and compliance status.
  • Ensure the Operating Strategies and Troubleshooting guides are adhered to; maintaining a consistent operation performance across all shifts.
  • Act as the interface with other Karara departments and contract partners to ensure a smooth transactional approach resulting in safe and efficient operations.
  • Develop and Implement operational systems within the plant and drive compliance.
  • Execute regular reporting on the processing and production function.
  • Engage with the Metallurgy department to identify process issues, develop solutions and provide technical support to the operating teams.
  • Demonstrate personal leadership by meeting all Karara safety policy and procedure requirements.
  • Role-model safe work practices and positive safety leadership to others in your job.
  • Ensure that you are fit for work and competent to undertake task requirements at all times.
  • Actively identify document and control hazards in your workplace or for your job tasks on the appropriate form (e.g. Job Hazard Analysis form).

 

Essential qualifications & experience:

  • WA Mines Safety & Inspection Regulations Act 1995
  • Certificate IV Leadership and Management (TAE40110)
  • Certificate IV Investigation Training or similar
  • Section 44 Appointed Persons Training
  • Proven understanding and experience in mineral processing operation including crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, and filtering plants
  • Demonstrated experience managing large teams in a position of leadership in a mining or other heavy industry environment
  • Proven experience establishing and implementing systems in a metallurgical plant environment

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Science
  • Trade qualifications
