Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our site maintenance team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring KML operational requirements meet site standards of efficiency, quality and safety. Preferably you will be experienced within a processing environment working with slurry pumps, grinding processes, magnetic separation, crushing, screens, conveyors.

This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off FIFO or DIDO roster.

 Key responsibilities:

  • Diagnosing and fault finding
  • Perform assigned work tasks for scheduled and unscheduled work
  • Ensure that all statutory and organisational OSH&E policies and requirements are adhered to by yourself and other members of our team at all times.
  • Identify, implement and communicate improvement opportunities in all work place areas
  • Be involved with writing and improving job procedures for various maintenance tasks
  • Ensure daily workloads are planned to meet daily deadlines for the turnaround of results
  • Demonstrating personal safety leadership by carrying out all work in line with policies and procedures
  • Active involvement in identifying continuous improvement opportunities with regard to processes and procedures
  • Promote a positive work culture

Essential requirements:

  • A Trade qualification and competency certificates in a Mechanical field
  • Tickets - Confined Space Entry & Working at Heights
  • WA ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated post trade experience in the mining or heavy industry within a process plant environment 
  • Understanding of generic process plant policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and experience with maintenance management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work in line with predicted operations requirements 
  • Knowledge in use of a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) including SAP
  • Proven understanding of risk assessment and management systems
