Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We are seeking qualified and experienced Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians to join the Electrical Maintenance team based at the Karara mine site. 

This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off day shift roster with rotational night shift.

Key responsibilities;

  • Actively demonstrate behaviours in alignment to Karara's Company Values and life saving commitments
  • Demonstrate personal safety leadership by adhering to and promoting all Karara safety policies and procedures
  • Lead by example and carry out all work in a safe manner ensuring the safety and well-being of you, other employees, contractors and visitors
  • Develop and participate in the overall execution of planned and unplanned electrical based tasks
  • Ensure that all statutory and organisational, operational, reliability and safety requirements are adhered to at all times
  • Participate with operational teams in carrying out all tasks undertaken with best practice outcomes
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with all internal and external departments with stake holdings in KML
  • Monitor, measure, communicate and report, issues, opportunities, risks, technical deviations and achievements pro-actively in all work place areas
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repair electrical plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Conduct general repairs and calibration of industrial instrumentation
  • Logically and systematically solve problems by implementing sound fault finding and fault rectification processes
  • Conduct HV switching safely, competently and in accordance with Karara access and work procedures
  • Assist with PLC investigation and repairs
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the relevant standards and acts

Essential requirements;

  • Trade qualification in Electrical (A Grade Electrical License)
  • Cert III or IV Instrumentation
  • Certificate of Attainment - HV Operator Training
  • Licenses - High Risk EWP, WAH, Confined Spaces
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of process plant equipment
  • Proven aptitude towards applying knowledge in an Electrical/Instrument field to arrive at practical and sustainable solutions
  • Proven experience in HV distribution and apparatus
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake problem solving investigations and reviews
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
  • National Police clearance
