Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We require an experienced and highly capable Operator Maintainer – Mechanical Fitter to join our Operations team based at the Geraldton Karara Export Terminal.

You be joining a high performing team that is responsible for executing safe and efficient operations for Automated train unloading, cargo stockpiling, ship loading bulk cargoes via a control room or with a Radio Remote Control unit, mooring vessels for the companies dedicated berth facility and shipment sample station activities.

In addition you shall be enabled to execute daily scheduled preventative maintenance work.

 

This role operates within the Port of Geraldton on an attractive sportsman rosterAll candidates must be based in the Geraldton area or be prepared to relocate at own cost.

Key responsibilities;

  • Demonstrate personal leadership by meeting all Karara safety policy and procedure requirements

  • Central Control Room (CCR) coordination of automated train unloading, cargo stockpiling and ship loading operations
  • Coordination of shipment sample station operations
  • Execute scheduling preventative maintenance work orders for the KET’s Scheduled Maintenance System.
  • Ensure your daily work tasks are planned effectively to meet the Train And Shipping Schedules
  • Demonstrating and promote personal safety leadership by carrying out all work in line with the companies policies and procedures
  • Active involvement in identifying continuous improvement opportunities with regard to processes and procedures
  • Promote positive work culture by being proactive with the companies safety lead activity tools and aligning personal behaviours with Karara’s Values and Life Saving Commitments

Essential Qualifications and experience;

  • Trade Qualification in a Mechanical Trade – Mechanical Fitter or Machinist
  • Certificate III in Resource Processing (desirable)
  • Experience with Control Room and fixed plant operations
  • PLC and SCADA experience, preferably with Allen Bradley and GE packages (Desirable)
  • WA Driver’s License, HR is desirable
  • Western Australian high risk work licenses not limited to CN, DG, RB, LF and WP
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of port operations and process plant equipment including conveyors, car dumpers, automated mobile equipment and ship loaders
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the landside marine, mining/resource industry
  • Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
  • National Police clearance is required to obtain MSIC
