Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our site based Engineering team, ensuring all plant and equipment is operating at optimum productivity for the magnetite processing plant while working to continuously improve plant equipment and process performance by applying engineering principles and statistical data analysis.

***To be considered for this position, candidates must have relevant mechanical engineering experience within a Dry plant environment with reliability experience with crushing, screening, feeder, chute, and conveyors***

This role is a permanent site based position, operating on an 8 days on 6 days off roster.

Technical responsibilities:

• Provide effective support to the business to identify and rectify mechanical engineering issues with operating equipment
• Provide technical support and coaching to the maintenance team in all aspects of Mechanical Engineering
• Analyse equipment and process performance to assess reliability, maintainability, and availability
• Conduct detailed engineering calculations and correlate data for analysis
• Undertake mechanical design and project work ensuring all engineering components are compliant with Australian standards and other regulatory requirements
• Perform analysis of failure data using statistical analysis tools
• Support operations and maintenance to improve equipment reliability
• Provide engineered solutions to complex equipment problems
• Participate in the identification, development, and implementation of relevant improvement projects
• Work alongside the operations and maintenance teams to communicate the opportunities for value adding activities

Essential Qualifications and experience:

• A Mechanical Engineering degree
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical engineering within a processing plant environment (preferably Magnetite processing)
• Demonstrable success in the application of engineering principles and statistical data analysis and implementation of processes
• Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5 Why’s work process methods and tools
• An understanding of common predictive technologies: vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, motor analysis, ultrasonic, machinery analysis, alignment and balancing procedures, and fixed equipment diagnostic technologies
• Practical statistical analysis skills, including failure statistics, failure rates, hazard rates and life expectancy
• Computer literacy with previous experience in CMMS Maintenance Systems (SAP preferred)
• National Police Clearance
