Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an opportunity for an experienced and qualified Registerable Plant Engineer to join the Maintenance Engineering team based at the Karara Mine Site. 

This position is responsible for managing all Registrable (formerly Classified) Plant around the KML Mine site. Accountable for conducting inspections and making records on the condition and status of items of Registrable and Non-Registrable Plant to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards relating to registered classified plant and equipment by Work Health and Safety Act and Mines Regulations and legislations.

This role operates on 8 days on 6 days off roster and is FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities;

  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and Work Health and Safety Regulations 2022, and former Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994, and Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995.
  • Experience & knowledge covering range of equipment from itinerant plant (mobile cranes, elevated work platforms, compressors) to fixed plant lifting equipment (monorails, bridge/ gantry cranes, davit/ jib cranes, workboxes, 4 post hoists, vehicle loading cranes, and gravity take up winches. Pressure equipment includes accumulators, air receivers, air cannons, air oil separators, heat exchangers, and pressure relief valves.
  • Competent in conducting registrable plant inspections, compiling reports with non-compliances, and recommendations, and to maintain inspection records.
  • Conducting non-registrable plant /duty of care inspections, and incident inspections involving classified plant.
  • Support operations and maintenance to improve equipment reliability.
  • Provide engineered solutions to complex equipment problems.
  • Participate in the identification, development, and implementation of relevant improvement projects.
  • Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to communicate the opportunities of the most value adding jobs.
  • Provide rapid and effective support to the business to identify and rectify issues in classified plant.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and provide and facilitate failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) with maintenance and production personnel.

Essential qualifications & experience:

  • A related Engineering degree - Mechanical is desirable.
  • Experience & knowledge covers a range of inspection types from conducting regulatory authority inspections, non-registrable inspections, duty of care inspections, accident / incident inspections of classified plant.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis work process methods and tools.
  • Practical statistical analysis skills, including failure statistics, failure rates, hazard rates and life expectancy.
  • Understanding of common predictive technologies: vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, motor analysis, ultrasonic, machinery analysis, alignment and balancing procedures, and fixed equipment diagnostic technologies.
  • Experience with inspections for EWP, cranes, pressure vessels, ropes and winches.
  • Sound mechanical knowledge of fixed and mobile plant.
  • Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work.
  • National Police clearance.
