Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We are seeking Services Operators for positions in our site based Processing teams.

In this role you will be required to safely support filter operations by maintaining, operating assets to convert magnetite iron ore into a saleable concentrate while complying with all approvals and commitments and ensure tails filtered product meets moisture requirements for contractual partners.

Experience with filtration, magnetic separation and flotation in a mining or other heavy industry environment would be advantageous.  

This position operates on an 8 days on and 6 days off, 7 nights on and 7 days off roster on a Maximum Term contract. 

Key functions;

• Ensure plans, procedures and work instructions are understood and followed correctly.
• Make certain you are competent in the work area including the correct use of all equipment and tools.
• Support concentrate production to meet the required grade and moisture specification in line with Karara standards.
• Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental requirements.
• Work effectively with all stakeholders including:
  • Metallurgist or Technician Laboratory taking plant samples to ensure concentrate quality is achievable and to develop strategies to maximise asset utilisation and efficiency.
  • Fitters, electricians and contractors maintaining fixed plant.
  • Mining department delivering ore to the crusher or loading concentrate onto trains.
  • BIS (tails storage facility contractor) partially during periods of the tails stacking system being down.
• Manage daily individual reporting to ensure completion in a timely manner.
• Ensure the concentrator is safely maintained and operated to deliver on specification concentrate in line with Karara policies, procedures, plans, goals and strategies.
• Safely operate through controlling, monitoring, adjusting, fixing, recording, cleaning and improving the below sections of the concentrator:
  • Concentrate thickener
  • Concentrate filtering
  • Concentrate storage
  • Tails thickener
  • Tails filtering
  • Tails disposal
  • Or as reasonable as directed by Supervisor Production.

Essential Qualifications and experience;

• Forklift ticket
• Overhead gantry crane, Confined space entry/gas testing, Working at heights, Poly welding qualification (desirable)
• Valid ‘C’ Class WA Drivers’ License
• Excellent mechanical aptitude and fault finding skills
• Proven ability working in a mining or other heavy industry environment
• Strong understanding of mineral processing
• Self-motivation and strong time management skills
• Demonstrate safe work practices and positive safety leadership to others in your job
• SCADA control systems (desirable)
• National Police Clearance
• Permanent work rights in Australia
