Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Contracts Superintendent to join our Business Planning and Commercial team in the Perth CBD office.

You will be leading and supporting a passionate and highly skilled Commercial Contracts team, while being responsible for overseeing the day to day management of all Karara’s contracting functions in accordance with company policies and procedures.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead, plan and negotiate with external contractors to ensure delivery of all the Company' services and to protect the Company's commercial interests
  • Develop and/or update Purchase Order Terms and Conditions to reflect the Company’s requirements and to minimize commercial/risk exposure
  • Review new supplier requests for services
  • Day to day services contract management, including the drafting and revision of goods contracts when required
  • Writing and interpreting complex and high value contractual requirements and obligations
  • Plan, lead and negotiate with external contractors to ensure delivery of all of the Company’ services
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with the Company’s contracting and approval procedures/policies
  • Lead end to end contract processes from tendering to variations
  • Leadership and development of the contracting and commercial outcomes that maximize the returns to the Company
  • Providing commercial advice and developing/implementing practical strategies to manage complex/high risk contracts
  • Providing commercial advice and supporting the Purchasing team in the formation of supply contracts for high risk goods
  • Overseeing the effective management of contracts register
  • Cost management
  • Management of any disputes or contractual legal matters
  • Working with stakeholders to develop planning, actions and accountability
  • Developing problem solving plans with stakeholders and driving solutions initiatives
  • Transparent information flow, presenting to stakeholders and direct reports

Essential qualifications and experience;

  • Degree qualifications in Commerce/Business - Legal or Contract Management
  • Solid understanding of Mining Operations
  • Practical commercial and a strong legal bias
  • Highly developed spoken and written communication skills
  • Sound understanding of the principles and practice of commercial negotiation with significant practical experience
  • Practical experience in the use and development of contractual documentation in Commodity, Service and Project type contracts
  • Significant experience in awarding and managing large contracts 
  • National Police Clearance
  • Permanent work rights in Australia
