Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Principal Document Controller to join our Assets & Projects team based in the Perth office on a Permanent basis.

The primary focus of this role is to be accountable for the effective implementation, management and coordination of document and records management to ensure a high standard of information provision to the Company, ensuring systems and processes are aligned with the Company’s strategy and direction. Ensure that Corporate Document control standards are kept up to date and meet relevant national and internal standards. You will ensure that all KML drawings and documentation prepared internally and by external service providers are prepared to the appropriate KML standards and all revised and superseded documents are clearly defined. 

Main responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development of a strategic plan with the objective of implementing “document management and control” through Karara over time, taking into careful consideration of people, processes and systems
  • Maintain document control management plan inclusive of document numbering systems
  • Prepare any control proformas, procedures, flow charts
  • Establish and maintain a correspondence filing system
  • Facilitate the approval of documentation, including designs, plans, scopes, specifications, procedures and instructions
  • Plan, record and direct all controlled document flow
  • Issue and track location of all documents and drawings
  • Manage and maintain a controlled document library including archiving solutions
  • Generate reports on the performance of critical areas of the document control system
  • Remove obsolete documents and resolve document queries
  • Plan and deliver training or workshops as required

Essential skills and experience;

  • Minimum 10 years industry experience in document control, with exposure to an engineering/projects/mining environment
  • Demonstrated industry experience developing, implementing and managing a functional document control system
  • Knowledge of various document control software systems and processes
  • Demonstrated vendor and sub-contractor experience relating to document transmittal
  • Good understanding of MS office suite (word, excel and visio)
  • National Police clearance
