Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We are seeking an experienced Superintendent Port Maintenance to be permanently based at our Karara Export Terminal located in Geraldton Western Australia.

The Port Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the development and implementation of all maintenance activities at the Karara Export Terminal. Ensuring the maintenance and planning teams deliver and promote Compliance to the Safety, Production and Budgeting targets. 

Reporting to the Port and Rail Manager, this role will collaborate with the Logistics department to improve maintenance systems, procedures and processes, define performance expectations, development plans and succession planning for the Maintenance and Planning teams. You will have the ability to prioritise work in line with emerging business priorities and maintain strong communication with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring they remain informed and engaged. It is essential to drive a strong culture within the Maintenance department with a focus on safe workplaces and behaviours. Strong time management and organisational skills is your natural flare.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Trade qualification in mechanical, engineering or electrical maintenance with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in Mining or heavy industry relevant environment or,
  • Mechanical Engineering Bachelor Degree or similar discipline (beneficial but not mandatory)
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership position managing a medium to large team in a mining or other heavy industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of fixed plant operations on ship loading and ore car unloading machinery 
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook and Excel
  • Sound knowledge of Operational management, strategy development and implementation 
  • Current Western Australian C Class Drivers Licence 
  • WA Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022
  • Schedule 26 Statutory Supervisor
  • MSIC Card 
  • Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
  • National Police clearance is required to obtain MSIC

There will be 2 rounds of face-to-face interviews at our Geraldton Port Office and not limited to further psychometric testing where applicable.
