Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an opportunity for an experienced and highly capable Production Supervisor to lead our operations crews. Reporting to the Production Superintendent, this role is responsible for managing safe and effective operations of the Karara magnetite concentrator, including but not limited to crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, flotation, thickening and filtration.

This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off 7 nights on 7 days off rotation.

To be considered for this role, applicants must have a strong background in process operations and have held a previous leadership role in the mining / heavy industry.

 

Key responsibilities;

  • Active contribution in meetings and planning discussions to improve hazard awareness and safety
  • Oversee effective operation of the plant on a shift to shift basis
  • Ensure consistency in plant operation across shifts by following operational systems and procedures
  • Liaise closely and regularly with plant Maintenance Supervision and Metallurgists to identify maintenance or process related issues and develop immediate rectification actions
  • Communicate and execute daily and weekly production schedules to establish priorities, interactions and isolation requirements within the team
  • Provide assistance to the Production Superintendent and Permit Supervisor in the implementation and execution of operational shutdown schedules and plans for with all major and minor planned maintenance shutdown events
  • Management of shift manning levels and providing direction, mentoring and coaching to team members
  • Management of contractor workforce
  • Seek and drive opportunities for continuous improvement, identify and communicate to appropriate personnel any incidents during shift

Essential requirements;

  • Proven experience in processing leadership roles within the mining industry (Supervisory/Team Lead role)
  • WA 'C' 'Class Drivers Licence
  • Schedule 26 Appointed Persons
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude with sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of mineral processing and capability to deliver continuous improvement strategies
  • Extensive experience with isolation systems & procedures
  • A sound understanding and previous experience in mineral processing operations including crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, and filtration, tailings disposal and management (advantageous) 
  • Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
  • National Police clearance 

Experience using SCADA Software (Control Room System) and exposure to Magnetic Separation and Magnetite Processing will be highly regarded
