Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an opportunity for an experienced and skilled Senior Maintenance Planner to join our site based Planning team. As a Senior Planner you will provide guidance and mentoring to the Planner/Scheduler team as well as lead the weekly planning meetings, promoting team compliance to work management practices and KPI’s.

This role is a permanent position, operating on an 8 days on 6 days off roster.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Promote compliance to work management systems and processes to support data integrity.
  • Provide coverage for periods of absence for the Superintendent Maintenance Planning.
  • Comply with processes and procedures identified in the Maintenance Work Management System (MWMS).
  • Share technical knowledge and expertise through cross functional working relationships on matters relating to planning and maintenance standards.
  • Manage and support the end-to-end planning and scheduling activities of the team.
  • Participate in the development of improvement strategies and procedures for equipment and maintenance activities.
  • Monitor and report on business objectives, issues, opportunities, risks, technical deviations and achievements in the Maintenance Planning function.
  • Coordinate proposals for stakeholders to propose and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the maintenance system and related operational budget.
  • Contribute to initiatives improving cost effectiveness and productivity for the organisation.
  • Identify and/or facilitate continuous improvement initiatives for the broader Maintenance department.
  • Preparation and management of the Main Plant Outages (MPO) planning and scheduling for 500+ personnel.
  • Ensure forecasts and schedules that include cyclic & corrective maintenance activities are generated in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ensure equipment statistics in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) are recorded accurately and work orders are planned to the KML standard and accurate forecasts for equipment are produced.
  • Ensure accurate and consistent Gantt charts are developed in a timely manner for major planned outages to promote effective work execution.
  • Ensure preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance activities are scheduled in line with production requirements for mechanical maintenance in a timely manner providing guidance to the planning team where required.
  • Ensure work order forecast for all preventative maintenance tasks is prepared for the coming week for distribution and printing.
  • Ensure accurate records in the CMMS systems are maintained to support reliability activities and cost analysis.

Essential Qualifications and experience:

  • A Trade Qualification - Mechanical Fitter or Boilermaker preferred
  • Western Australian C Class Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated experience as a Planner/Scheduler in a mining or other heavy industry for minimum 5 years
  • Proven knowledge and experience working within a fixed plant mineral processing environment
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and scheduling of large shutdown activities
  • Knowledge of mineral processing and associated mobile and non-mobile equipment
  • Proficient with computer systems including the Microsoft Office Suit and SAP (Maintenance system)
  • Understanding of maintenance management principles and work management systems
  • Knowledge and experience with SAP CMMS advantageous
  • Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
  • National Police clearance
