Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

This is a permanent site-based position for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Operational Optimisation Department.

Working on a Full-time 8 days on and 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth.

This newly created position is critical to overseeing the KML plant's output of high-quality iron ore through innovative engineering solutions and meticulous process optimisation.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Recognised Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering
• WA "C" Class manual driver's licence
• Advanced training or qualifications in reliability engineering or project management
• Minimum of 15 years’ experience in professional engineering practice
• Minimum 5 years working with a client (mining company)
• A strong background in mechanical engineering.
• Demonstrated capability in mechanical engineering study and project planning, execution
• Solid experience in engineering project management and construction site engineering/supervision
• Significant experience in the mining, processing or associated industries
• Understanding of common predictive technologies: vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, motor analysis, ultrasonic testing, machinery analysis, alignment and balancing procedures, and fixed equipment diagnostic technologies
• Practical statistical analysis skills including failure statistics, failure rates, hazard rates, and life expectancy
• Computer literacy, with proficiency in CMMS Maintenance Systems (preferably SAP) and the MS Office suite.
• Experience with MicroStation or SolidWorks systems
• Experience using finite element analysis software

• National Police Clearance

Key Duties (but not limited to) :-

• Close collaboration with operations and project teams, providing effective engineering support to enhance equipment reliability
• Oversee and implement approved capital projects, ensuring operational targets for cost, production, and safety are met
• Comprehensive understanding of sound engineering practices, compliance with site engineering standards, and adherence to all applicable regulatory and statutory requirements, including relevant Australian standards
• Demonstrates high capability in engineering studies, implementation, management, and mechanical engineering advice
• Addressing technical and engineering issues promptly, safely, and efficiently, maximizing equipment availability and production outcomes

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
