Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We have an opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our Health Safety & Training department based at the Karara Mine Site. 

Reporting to the HST Superintendent, the Advisor is responsible for promoting a positive health and safety culture in the workplace through effective collaboration with Management and employees.

This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off roster.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • Tertiary qualification or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Incident Investigation Techniques (ICAM, TapRoot and/or 8 Steps/Essential Factors)
  • Cert IV Training and Assessment (desirable)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety legislation, particularly Work Health and Safety Act 2020 & Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022
  • Proven experience in a safety role within the resource sector
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) 
  • National Police Clearance

  • Assist with the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of health & safety management standards, procedures, tools & templates
  • Support the application of Karara's risk management processes
  • Participate in incident investigations and support the tracking of preventative actions
  • Maintain integrity of data in the Karara incident management database and conduct analysis to identify trends
  • Educate and provide specialist advice and support with regard to all relevant health and safety legislation
  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and other health and safety training programs as required
  • Support the Health and Hygiene monitoring program by collecting samples and calibrating sample equipment
  • Completing audits and inspections in compliance with monitoring program
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement and new health and safety educational initiatives

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
