Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

This is a FIFO site-based position is for a Senior Exploration Geologist to join our Environment & Communities team.

This role is on a 5 days on, 2 days off; 4 days on, 3 days off fortnightly lifestyle roster, allowing you to be back home every weekend!

This role is responsible leading and managing the exploration strategy for KML, focusing on the identification and evaluation of new mineral deposits and opportunities. This role is critical for ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of the operation by discovering new resources that can be developed to support future mining activities. This role will be responsible for developing and guiding the exploration team, interpreting geological data, and making strategic decisions that align with the overall objectives of KML.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• A Tertiary qualification in Geology or Earth Sciences
• Experience managing drill rigs with a sound understanding of iron ore minerology and experience logging iron ore
• Ability to work both autonomously with minimal supervision
• Proficiency in geological databases and modelling software
• Reporting and documentation experience in line with JORC 2012 reporting guidelines
• Proven experience in a similar role within the mining industry
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, high attention to detail

• National Police Clearance

Key Duties (but not limited to) :-

• Data Collection & Analysis: Lead the collection and analysis of geological data to inform strategic exploration decisions.
• Drilling Program & Project Management: Oversee exploration and resource development drilling, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, within budget, and aligned with company goals.
• Resource Evaluation & Innovation: Provide geological expertise in resource evaluation and drive the adoption of innovative exploration techniques.
• Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor the exploration team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
• Compliance, Reporting & Stakeholder Communication: Ensure compliance with regulations, manage exploration budgets, and communicate progress to stakeholders effectively.

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
