Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

This is a permanent site-based position for a Structural Engineer to join our Operational Optimisation Department.

Working on a Full-time 5 days on, 2 days off and 4 days on, 3 days off FIFO roster from Perth.

This newly created position, will provide effective engineering support to improve structural safety, reliability and cost effectiveness to the processing plant.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Recognised Degree qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering (CPEng desirable)
• WA "C" Class manual driver's licence
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Structural/Civil engineering
• Demonstrated capability in Civil/Structural engineering study and project planning execution
• Solid experience in engineering project management and construction site engineering/supervision
• National Police Clearance

To be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia.

Key Duties (but not limited to) :-

• Provide structural engineering solutions for processing plant performance / plant reliability improvements and develop optimisation proposals as required which meet all relevant Australian standards, regulatory and statutory requirements
• Provide technical support in all aspects of structural engineering including management duties during execution of projects
• Read and interpret structural drawings, P&ID’s and other reference materials to assist with engineering study and identify/develop improvement initiatives
• Work across all departments and engineering consultants to ensure effective flow and completion of required capital project study and execution

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
