Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We have an excellent opportunity for an experience and motivated Technical Translator & Interpreter to join our Executive team based on the Karara mine site.

This role will be offered as a permanent position, operating on a day shift roster of 5 days on and 2 days off, 4 days on and 3 days off, 9 days on and 5 days off.

*To be considered for this role, applicants must be fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) and English, both written and verbal, NAATI certification (certified level) is preferred*

The ideal candidate will be a real team player with a proven ability to multi-task and prioritise their work and have the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• A Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Translation & Interpreting or other relevant discipline
• Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) and English both verbal and written communication in a business and operational environment
• Professional NAATI accreditation (English-Chinese/Mandarin) (preferred)
• Extensive experience in technical translation and interpreting (desirable)
• Knowledge in engineering including mineral processing, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, process control, mining (advantageous)
• Experience in mine operations including mining, processing, maintenance, engineering, rail and port (advantageous)
• Must be permanent resident or have Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
• National Police clearance

To be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia.

Key Duties:

• Provide interpretation and translation services to site-based management including General Manager Operations, Deputy General Manager Operations
• Provide interpretation and translation services to other site-based and port teams where required
• Facilitate efficient and effective communications between English and Chinese (Mandarin) speaking managers and employees
• Be the main point of contact for internal departments and contractors when liaising with the General Manager Operations. Understand the requirements in each instance and coordinate/act accordingly
• Coordinate daily reporting, instructions and escalation processes between internal departments including Mining, Processing, Maintenance, Logistics, HST, Site Services and General Manager Operations
• Coordinate and manage the calendar for the General Manager Operations
• Attend various operational and business meetings to support the completion of actions through escalation and follow up as instructed and agreed
• Assist to review or produce meeting minutes when required
• Provide interpretation and translation services to any corporate visitors, technical visitors and auditors where required
• Provide translation support to the executive support team as required and as instructed
• Perform any other tasks reasonably delegated within skill set and competency that may be required from site, port and head office locations
• Provide general administration support to site management team as required

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
