Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.
We are seeking an experienced Analyst Commercial to join our Perth finance team. The successful incumbent will be directly involved in the provision of management accounting support to the Mining, Processing, Maintenance and Asset Management departments. This includes a significant amount of Mandarin based financial reporting for various local and offshore stakeholders.
You will also assist and support companywide business improvement initiatives focused on cost, production, and operational efficiencies, as well as provision of support to the commercial department in negotiating new contracts, tender evaluation and negotiating cost reductions with existing supplies etc.
Finance & Commercial responsibilities:
- Provide accounting support to the Mining, Processing, Maintenance and Asset Management departments, including month end accruals, cost reallocations, variance analysis and reporting. Month end duties may also include some business wide tasks such as flight and accommodation cost allocation.
- Assist the Mining, Processing, Maintenance and Asset Management departments with the preparation of the annual budget and associated analysis and reporting.
- Assist the Mining, Processing, Maintenance and Asset Management departments with the preparation of monthly cost variance analysis and associated month end cost reviews.
- Assist with Mandarin based financial information requests from various Karara stakeholders. This is a significant component of the role.
- Provide support for the Principal Commercial Analyst, Financial Controller and the Chief Financial Officer as required.
- Identify and escalate business improvement opportunities such as potential cost reductions, process improvement, or production improvement.
- Where improvement initiatives are adopted by the business, play a key role in gathering data and other information, preparing analysis and providing reports and recommendations to management for decision making and execution.
- Assist with major contract renegotiation through the utilisation of data analytics and traditional financial assessments.
- Support the Commercial department by providing financial / business performance modelling capability.
Essential qualifications and experience.
- A bachelor's degree in commerce or business (CA/CPA desirable).
- Demonstrated experience in a similar position within the resource industry.
- Solid background in Finance or similar Commercial Analytical roles.
- Strong excel and financial modelling skills.
- Strong organisational and information management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluent verbal and written Mandarin language skills.
- A valid (6 months) National Police Clearance.
