Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Karara mine is located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia and is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Advisor Water & Environment to join the team on site on a 5:2 / 4:3 Roster. Reporting to the Principal Advisor Environment & Tenements, you will be responsible for the completion of day-to-day planning and scheduling activities along with ensuring materials and labor are provided for all water management activities. 

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Tertiary qualification in Hydrogeology or Environmental Science.
• Demonstrated experience in a similar role within the resource sector.
• Experience planning and coordinating water management operations and requirements along with water quality monitoring and general hydrometric data collection.
• Experience in water quality monitoring and general hydrometric data collection
• Strong time management, organisational and communication skills.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite.

Key Duties Include (but not limited to): 

• Coordinate the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of Karara’s low-quality water supply system.
• Undertake operational and maintenance planning for groundwater, drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Engage with contractors and suppliers to ensure that operations are cost-effective and aligned to Karara’s financial and operational goals.
• Coordinate compliance sampling and monitoring in accordance with Karara’s regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate water supply equipment and inventory to maintain operations.
• Liaise and coordinate contractors, consultants and suppliers.
• Develop reports containing approval documentation to secure future infrastructure ensuring continuous operations of the Karara Project.
• Review and manage monitoring data to ensure quality and consistency requirements are met.

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia. Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
