Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Site Works Supervisor to join Maintenance team, responsible for ensuring that site infrastructure and facilities are maintained in a serviceable condition while adhering to all KML policies and procedures.

The Supervisor Site Works will work closely with all members of the Maintenance teams and contractor partners to achieve the objectives of the role and meet business requirements.

Operating on an 8 days on 6 days off roster, FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • WA C Class Drivers Licence
  • Understanding of building maintenance and infrastructure
  • Solid experience working with computer systems (MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel)
  • Minimum 5 years in a Supervisory position leading groups of 5 or more personnel
  • Strong understanding of safety standards, including permit systems and risk management tools
  • Understanding of maintenance management principles and work management systems
  • National Police clearance

Key Duties - (but not limited to):

  • Utilise the company CMMS to manage and record all maintenance activities
  • Proactively monitor, measure, communicate downtime events which negatively impact site personnel, safety systems or the environment.
  • Be actively involved in identifying and developing improvement strategies to deliver reliability of equipment.
  • Be involved in initiatives to improve cost effectiveness and productivity for the organisation.
  • Manage approved infrastructure projects in alignment with budget constraints and stakeholder requirements
  • Assist the village management team with major repairs as required to ensure facility services meet with required standards
  • Support the processing maintenance team with the coordination of minor service activities.
  • Supervise, coordinate and prioritise repair and maintenance activities with the aim of minimising interruptions to personnel and the processing plant while ensuring safety standards are met at all times.
  • Supervise maintenance activities associated with plant outages, modular and major shutdowns as required with the aim of ensuring the safe and effective execution of those activities
  • Ensure the light vehicle fleet is maintained to a standard that meets site safety and operational requirements and that maintenance records are accurately maintained in the company CMMS
  • Manage the systematic maintenance of site buildings and service facilities to ensure they are maintained to the required standard. These facilities include;
  • Buildings, crib rooms and associated facilities
  • Wash bay
  • Potable Water System
  • Aerodrome maintenance
  • Remote / service generators (excel water management team equipment)

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
