Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We have an opportunity for an experienced and qualified Technical Writer required to compile Detailed Job Procedures (DJP) and Standard Work Procedures (SWP).

The Technical Writer role is a critical part of the Maintenance team and requires a self-motivated person to ensure technical detail in all documentation is to a high understandable standard ensuring all safety aspects are incorporated to assist all personnel, to execute works safely and efficiently while promoting higher plant reliability, availability and reduced costs.

Operating on an 8 days on 6 days off roster, FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • An Engineering or Trade qualification with strong post trade experience in the Mechanical field
  • WA ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence
  • Prior experience in technical document writing and document formatting
  • Computer literacy with previous experience in CMMS Maintenance Systems (SAP preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability in the MS Office suite of programs
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
  • Experience in mechanical engineering within a processing plant environment (preferably Magnetite processing) would be desirable
  • National Police clearance

Key Duties - (but not limited to):

  • Develop high quality documents with user friendly content that meets the needs of the target audience and KMLbusiness requirements
  • Operate from both office and field job locations compiling information and taking photos for DJP development and updates, to ensure documents are accurate and completed to a high and understandable standard in alignment with KML standards
  • Incorporate the OEM maintenance manuals along with in field observations to compile a robust DJP
  • Contribute to process and system improvement initiatives to ensure effective safe work practices
  • Research and gather relevant information to update and maintain technical documentation, keeping it current and aligned with best current practices
  • Develop user-friendly content that ensures clarity and consistency while adhering to current industry safety standards and regulations
  • Stay updated with industry trends, mining technologies, and regulatory requirements to ensure the documentation reflects the latest safety standards

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
