Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Junior Business Analyst to support the Principal Commercial Analyst and the Finance Team with the month end process, including providing accounting assistance to the Rail and Port departments, as well as contributing to the ongoing development and maintenance of management reporting models.

Based in our Perth CBD office, some site travel may be required from time to time.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Degree qualification in Business, Accounting, Finance or Commerce
• WA ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence
• Exposure to resource industry with a background in Finance or similar Management Accounting or Business Analyst role is desirable
• ERP System knowledge/experience
• Sound organisational skills and the ability to progress multiple tasks simultaneously
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
• Proficient excel and modelling skills
• National Police clearance

Key Duties - (but not limited to):

• Support the month-end process by assisting with the preparation of month end journals, cost allocations and accruals for Port and Rail departments; perform product inventory valuation and impairment testing; update production physicals and deferred stripping calculations, and assist with running of SAP system month end routines
• Assist with preparing Management reports including CGAAP and AGAAP and perform cost analysis for Port and Rail departments
• Provide assistance to internal site stakeholders with cost analysis and cost review preparation
• Interface with external auditors for relevant areas. This involves the provision and explanation of supporting documentation and associated accounting methodologies
• Provide support for the Principal Commercial Analyst, Financial Controller and Chief Financial Officer as well as the wider Finance team as required

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
