Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Port Operations Supervisor to join our Port team based at the Geraldton Karara Export Terminal, responsible for leading the team of Operator Maintainers.

This leadership role will supervise the daily operation pertaining to train unloading and ship loading schedule, ensure and promote compliance to the safety, production and budgeted targets.

This role operates on a Sportsman style 2 days, 2 nights on 5 days off / 2 days, 3 nights on 4 days off / 3 days, 2 nights on 5 days off roster.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Trade Qualification is desirable
• WA ‘C’ Class Drivers’ License
• Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of port and rail operations with generic process plant policies and procedures
• Ability to undertake problem solving investigations and reviews and plan work in line with predicted operational requirements
• Excellent English verbal and written communication and computer literacy skills
• Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
• National Police clearance is required to obtain MSIC

Key Duties - (but not limited to):

• Ensure that that all statutory and organisational OHS&E requirements are met by creating preventative culture with their direct reports, through daily hazard identification, risk assessment approvals
• Provide ongoing leadership & mentoring to the team
• Lead by example by consistently demonstrating respectful behaviours & actions
• Ensure efficient utilisation of labour, parts, and equipment resources
• Be the first response for Operator Maintainers in regard to production related issues
• Daily reporting to Superintendent Operations on all activities, downtime and production issues
• Work closely with the Superintendent Operations to ensure the operations team facilitate safe and efficient access to port equipment for planned maintenance purposes
• Allocate shift tasks to the Operator/Maintainers as per the scheduled maintenance plan and control room operations train and ship loading
• Ensure that that all statutory and organisational OHS&E requirements are met by creating preventative culture with their direct reports, through daily hazard identification, risk assessment approvals
• Approval of all permits involved with working at heights, confined space and all forms of positive isolations as a Level 2 Authorised Isolator and Permitting Officer

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
