Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. The opportunity

We are looking for experienced Tails Dam Operators to join our Processing team, playing a key role in the safe and environmentally responsible operation of the KML Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) and Wet Concentrate Dam.

Operators will undertake a range of routine and non-routine activities, including polyethylene pipe welding, maintenance of polyethylene and steel pipelines, tailings disposal, concentrate dam deposition, water recovery, mobile plant operation, and general labouring and housekeeping duties.

These positions are site-based operating on an 8 days on 6 days off roster, FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• WA C Class Drivers Licence
• Confined Space, Working at Heights & Skid Steer Tickets
• Poly welding qualification (highly desirable)
• Proven understanding in a mineral processing environment including fixed plant, mobile plant, and tailings management
• Mobile plant operational experience
• National Police clearance 

To be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia.

Key Duties - (but not limited to):

• Operate and adjust manual valves and hose clamps on tailings and wet concentrate lines
• Operate the decant pumping system as required
• Inspect and monitor field equipment, dam walls, pipework, and pumps
• Ensure compliance with environmental and statutory requirements
• Perform housekeeping within tailings and wet concentrate dam areas
• Identify and report maintenance issues to relevant personnel
• Execute and monitor tailings and wet concentrate deposition plans
• Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on HDPE and steel pipework, valves, and fittings
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly statutory reporting
• Maintain equipment records, conduct pre-start checks, and report faults on light mobile plant and small equipment
• Plan and report daily deposition and water recovery activities
• Adapt to changing operational conditions and priorities
• Identify opportunities to improve dam area operations
