Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity
We are looking for a Rail Supervisor to oversee the safe and efficient movement of rail services to and from the Karara site. The role also involves assisting with the monitoring of ore quality for shipment, while ensuring strict adherence to all statutory obligations, company policies, and operational procedures.
This position runs on a continuous shift roster and requires successful completion of a Category 1 Rail Medical, including drug and alcohol screening.
The roster is 8 days on and 6 days off continuous roster. Travel options include DIDO from Geraldton (with a company bus provided), FIFO from Perth, or self-drive in/out from other Midwest regional locations.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential:
- Certificate III in Rail Operations
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a rail operations environment
- Valid Manual Class ‘C’ Driver’s Licence (WA)
- Intermediate computer skills (e.g. email, data entry, Excel)
- Ability to work shift schedules and strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Logistics experience with capability to coordinate multiple aspects of the supply chain
- ARC Infrastructure Track Accreditation (PO, POLO, POTV)
- Track maintenance or rail operations experience
- National Police Clearance

Key Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Comply with all statutory obligations and company policies relevant to railway operations
- Support the performance monitoring of rail contractors
- Monitor and assist in guiding rail operations to ensure practices align with company goals and objectives
- Follow direction and apply efficient work practices to ensure rail operations contribute to overall business success
- Monitor and report on key operational activities to ensure alignment with company standards including:
- Train loading and unloading
- Train movements and operations
- Liaison with adjacent landowners and local/state authorities
- Compile daily production and cost reports related to rail operations
- Adhere to strategic and annual plans including operational budgets
- Assist with data entry reporting and preparation of periodic performance reports
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety efficiency and operational effectiveness
