Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Karara operates an iron ore mine and associated infrastructure in the mid-west region of W.A.
The operation is designed for a +30 year mine life and production of 8Mtpa. It comprises a long life and world-class magnetite deposit; dedicated rail infrastructure; and an integrated train load-out/ship loading facility at our Geraldton port operations. Karara is breaking new ground with the development and ongoing operation of the first significant iron ore mine in the mid- west.
We are seeking an experienced, qualified and highly capable Rail Superintendent to lead the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Karara railway. Reporting to the Logistics Manager, this is a hands on role that interfaces between the railway and internal and external customers at a service delivery level. The Superintendent shall report on matters of safety and regulation, operations, maintenance and system performance pertaining to the railway, its contractors and public interface areas. The successful candidate must have strong communication and leadership attributes with extensive experience in rail operations at a senior/supervisory level.
This role operates on a 5:2 / 4:3 day shift roster and is DIDO from Geraldton or FIFO from Perth
Safety responsibilities;
- Demonstrate personal safety leadership by adhering to and promoting all Karara safety policies and procedures
- Lead by example and carry out all work in a safe manner ensuring the safety and well-being of you, other employees, contractors and visitors
- Actively contribute to meetings and planning discussions on improving hazard awareness and safety
Role responsibilities;
- Ensure the daily operation of the rail meets all statutory requirements and company policies and procedures applicable to rail operations and maintenance
- Ensuring that controls in relation to the above are implemented, monitored, complied with and reported
- Lead the daily implementation and reporting of rail operating and maintenance contracts
- Determining, formulating and directing operations and maintenance procedures, practices and activities which are consistent with company goals and objectives
- Responsible for the effective management and daily operations of train loading, operations, inspection & maintenance, train control, communications and signalling and public interface
- Effective internal and external stakeholder management
- Preparation and analysis of daily production and cost data to ensure efficient operations and reporting any matters to Logistics Manager
- Contribute to the development of strategic annual plans and budgets for operations and maintenance and apply these plans effectively
- Drive continuous improvement throughout the rail teams to seek better, safer and more efficient ways of undertaking tasks and activities
Leadership responsibilities;
- Significant experience in similar senior supervisory level role within rail operations or maintenance function or heavy industry
- Strong written and oral communication
- Demonstrated ability to drive a positive culture and harmonious work environment
- Demonstrated ability to drive company values and manage team effectively
- Strong business focus
Key individual requirements;
- Cert IV in Leadership & Management
- Cert III in Rail Yard Coordination
- Certification in Incident Investigation
- Cert IV in Training and Assessment
- WA C Class Drivers License
