Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We are seeking an experienced & highly capable Principal Advisor to manage the Flights and Accommodation function and team. This is a fully autonomous role reporting to the Corporate General Manager. This role will primarily be responsible for effectively managing the contracts relating to the management of the Karara camp and aerodrome, with a strong focus on providing the best possible experience for employees, contractors and visitors to the Karara mine site. To be considered for this role applicants must be able to demonstrate strong commercial acumen and highly effective people management and relationship building skills. Applicants must also have a solid background in camp/aviation management and have been involved in contract negotiation and management.

 This position is based at the Karara Mine Site and operates on a 5 days on 2 days off 4 days on 3 days off roster.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effective contract negotiation and management and proactive issue resolution
  • Prepare annual budgets and business plans for flights and accommodation function
  • Develop and implement initiatives and programs that improve the experience of the Karara camp residents
  • Build effective relationships and liaise closely with site leaders to understand the short, medium & long term flight & accommodation requirements according to operations
  • Ensure legislative and regulatory compliance
  • Effectively manage, coach, develop and mentor direct reports
  • Drive a positive workplace culture
  • Actively identify continuous improvement opportunities or capital expenditure initiatives

Key Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Business/Commerce or related field
  • WA C Class Driver’s License
  • Cert IV in Health & Safety (desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in similar level role within the mining industry
  • Previous experience in aerodrome management
  • Strong risk management focus
